Now we are holding our breath and tapping our feet, while Trump continues to burn it all down. He doesn’t follow laws, he eviscerates them. He doesn’t tell the truth, he batters it. He doesn’t love this country, he loathes it. It is time to impeach this awful man.
These days, I’m as likely to feel like punching a person squarely between the eyes as I am to reach out to some random soul, grab them by the shoulder and cry. I am scared to death it could be the same person …
The notion Trump gives a single shit about our country or even his party should have been completely extinguished in Helsinki when it was clear to anybody with working eyes and ears that he was, as Clinton warned us, “Putin’s puppet.”
Pelosi has been back on the job less than a month and without even raising her voice has backed Trump into the corner of his playpen. She is building committees and what will be the most powerful political caucus in U.S. history, brick by solid brick. This is what she does.
This is what the most powerful person in the world does.
Much like the landmark Civil Rights Act or the New Deal, turning out a destructive traitor and sending him off to abuse only his family may not be wholly popular by some in this country yet, but history will undoubtedly show that it will have been the right thing to do.
By now the #TheResistance was a full-blown thing and an amalgam of everything that was still good and right about this country. Environmentalists, civil rights crusaders, educators, kids and do-gooders in all shapes and sizes had pulled together and were literally on the march. Our women were leading the way and not a minute too soon, because everything depended on November and what might be America’s last, best chance to set about making things right again.
As poll after poll has showed us and the Midterms proved, MSNBC is seeing things through the very eyes of a vast majority of the American electorate and the world. They are verifying our fear and terror and providing the comfort of knowing we aren’t the only ones who are shivering through it.
Evidence shows, whether we want to admit it or not, that after Clinton’s historic win we would have giddily dined on the presidency while the Republicans continued to eat our lunch.
So Mueller, the crime-fighting, conservative Republican, quietly sealed his envelopes and watched from the sidelines while one of the most important, hotly contested Midterm Elections in history took shape.
Meantime, of course, Trump was thundering across the countryside with all the grace of a 360-pound, sleep-deprived dry drunk looking for love in all the wrong places.
From literally Day One of the Trump Tragedy, the women in this country grabbed America’s helm. Instead of steering away from danger they fiercely turned directly into it.
